Ko koe ki tena - and you carry this handle

T -Tamariki–The heart of Makino Kohungahunga

A - Ako – The cycle of learning for all, embracing that each learns

     at their own pace

M - Manaakitanga –Through nurturing relationships, kindness, care,

trust and respect we welcome all into our learning community

A - Aspirations – The teaching team will support tamariki to achieve

their own aspirations and that of their whānau

R - Relationships- We value respectful, reciprocal partnerships to

support all tamariki on their learning journey

I – Individuality- We celebrate and accept the uniqueness of each

     individual within our learning community

K – Kaitiakitanga – We embrace the responsibility to care for our

environment and maintain it for future generations

I – Interdependence – We value a collaborative and cooperative

learning approach as we all learn and grow to our full potential

Together with whānau, strengthened by our philosophy, we will support tamariki on their learning journey, just as Ti Kouka, the cabbage tree, guided Maori on their journey.

‘Ti Kouka’ means “Footprints in the Landscape” as they guided Maori on their travels.
