Campbell Street Kindergarten has been treated to some interesting visitors lately. Firstly, they welcomed Cracker Jim to afternoon mat time. Cracker Jim is a farmer who writes children's books full of characters created to explain, entertain and educate children about farming.
Cracker Jim shared his latest publication Flossie and the Drought. This was a great opportunity for the children and their families to hear a story read in person by the author. Those not from a rural background developed a sense of what farm life is like, and the importance of agriculture in New Zealand.
The kindergarten also had a visit from Constable Rochelle Waru, Constable Pere Karatau and Shane the dog handler to police dog Vice.
Children discovered what the police do out and about in the city, and learned a lot by asking the police officers some thought provoking questions. The children had the opportunity to dress up in police gear and give Vice a pat.
