Cloverlea Kindergarten's strong interest in music and movement has recently been facilitated by five visits from Dean McKerras of Dean McKerras School during the term.
Dean's sessions have been looked forward to with anticipation and the children participated with much delight and enthusiasm. They've taken their new ‘moves' home to share with their families and used them frequently throughout the kindergarten day.
The children grew quickly in confidence and skills over the weeks. The teachers enjoyed watching their sense of achievement in mastering different things. The dancing has also helped the children develop their coordination and spatial awareness.
The sessions linked to the Te Whāriki goal of communication, allowing the children to experience an environment where they discover and develop different ways to be creative and to express themselves.
