A visit to Ohakea

Hokowhitu Kindergarten

An invitation by Lucy's Dad, Squadron Leader Tim Costley, saw 38 children and 20 adults climb on board a bus and make their way to the Royal New Zealand Air Force base at Ohakea.

The excitement of watching NH90 helicopters practice their take off and landings, was taken to another level when the children were allowed to climb into the cockpit of one.

The children also enjoyed investigating the inside of various aircraft, and the very important emergency vehicles.

Many, including head teacher Jill Ellis, tried on safety equipment used by Ohakea's fire service. The children were fascinated by just how heavy the gear was, yet the fire crew could still move around easily.

The trip provided an opportunity for connecting links and extending the children's knowledge of the wider world of work.
On the way home the group called into Bulls Kindergarten. After exchanging mihis the two kindergartens enjoyed eating their lunch and playing together in Bulls' outdoor environment.
